About Us

The Chinese Elders Mansion (CEM) is a non-profit organization dedicated to serving the Chinese senior community in Edmonton by providing safe, stable, and community-oriented housing, while promoting senior programs, cultural activities, and community support services. In response to the growing need for affordable seniors housing and culturally connected community support for Chinese seniors in Edmonton, the organization worked together with the Alberta provincial government and local community leaders to develop senior housing projects. The first seniors residence was completed in 1977 with funding support from the Alberta Mortgage and Housing Corporation. The building was established with the involvement of Chinese community organizations and became an important milestone for Edmonton’s Chinese senior community. In addition to residential units, the building also included a large assembly hall capable of accommodating approximately 300 people for community events and gatherings. Later, Chinese Elders Mansion II was officially opened in 1991 with support from the Alberta Heritage Fund, further expanding seniors housing and community services for seniors in the Edmonton area.
